Betsy Halaby, Art in Action's Program Director, has been involved with the organization since 1987 and ran Art in Action from 1993-1999. Currently, she helps with the development, testing, and refinement of Art in Action's expanding school curriculum, and with bringing the Art in Action program to more schools nationwide. Betsy conducts annual hands-on training sessions, teaching several hundred Art in Action teachers and parent volunteers how to implement the Art in Action curriculum. She additionally heads a group of trainers to conduct on-site trainings. Betsy also coordinates monthly art shows at public libraries and a summer art show. She was named 2011 Arts Educator of the Year by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors
Betsy is a graduate of Stanford University where she majored in History of American Art. She has worked with the curator of painting at the Brooklyn Museum in New York. In her spare time, Betsy likes discovering new restaurants, traveling, spending time with her family, and appreciating art wherever she finds it.
